Dr Yannis Stavrakas

Dr. Yannis Stavrakas received his Diploma in Physics from the University of Athens, Greece, and his “M.Sc. with Distinction in Computer Science” from University College London, UK. From 1993 to 1997 he worked as a software engineer and technical manager. From 1998 to 2003 he worked as a research fellow at the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications of the National Center for Scientific Research “Demokritos”. In 2003 he completed his Ph.D. at the National Technical University of Athens, Greece. From 2004 to 2006 he worked as a visiting professor at the University of Thessaly, and the University of Central Greece. He is currently a researcher at the Institute for the Management of Information Systems – R.C. “Athena”.

His research interests include context-aware data management, web data management, database preservation, data provenance, digital libraries, management of scientific data, and situation-aware mobile computing. He is especially interested in (a) integrating the notions of context and situation into data management systems, and (b) data management systems tailored to support domain-specific scientific data and research processes.
